about

As it heads towards the end of its twentieth year, and embarks upon what’s likely to be numerous birthday celebrations in 2019, the time feels right for Wah Wah 45s to put together another collection of its bigger dance floor moments and more esoteric electronic collaborations from the last two decades.

Wah Wah 45s Remixed 2 delves not only into more reworked goodness from deep in the catalogue, but also more recent sonic treats. Exciting new signing, Honeyfeet, make the grade with remixes coming from veteran Polish underdog Envee and Brit disco legends Crazy P; the bass loving Hunrosa receives a trio of tasty twists from newcomer Danvers, drummer and producer Jonny Drop, and Italian scene stealer Clap! Clap!; Nigerian Afrobeat Ambassador Dele Sosimi gets rebooted by three of the UK’s finest bass worrying outfits – Books, Modified Man and label mates Paper Tiger (who are themselves on the dance card with dashing re-jigs from Archie Pelago, Captain Over and the super hot Shy One); and fellow Afro-Dub providers Soothsayers get re-polished by more home-grown musical royalty in the shape of Fila Brazillia’s Steve Cobby, as well as South coast production don Titeknots, and up-and-coming Argentinian beatmaker, Lagartijeando.

As one digs deeper back into the archives though, you’ll find Brighton reggae legends Resonators given a hip hop meets jungle shakedown by Debian Blak; jazzy siblings Colman Brothers being taken smoothly to the dance floor by Sunlightsquare as well as being given a sleazy, sinister mix by fellow Wah Wah players Part-Time Heroes, who themselves pitch in with a very foot friendly flip courtesy of LPZ, also known as Lopez. Elsewhere, Maze Hill get a right old seeing to by LV; Stac pops up with an extremely sonorous re-do by Greymatter; Gene Dudley gets taken to the beach by ambient maestro BJ Smith (of Smith & Mudd fame); Bev Lee Harling gets her boogie on with Claws For; good friend of the label, The Reflex, once again turns beat provider for Hackney Colliery Band and the much missed Henri-Pierre Noel; and label boss Scrimshire provides a couple of top notch bangers with a little help from Stubborn Heart and Anchorsong.

That’s twenty-six tracks then for those in need of a more sublime, cerebral moment, a cheeky shuffle or a proper dance floor tear out. The choice is yours!
